XAU/USD gold rebates: four brokers by account type

Gold rebates differ by almost a factor of two between brokers on the same account tier. But for anyone holding overnight, swap costs more than the spread and the rebate combined.

Gold is the second most traded instrument among Vietnamese traders after EUR/USD, and it is where
rebate rates differ most between brokers — close to double between the highest and the lowest on an
equivalent account tier.

Why the gap is so wide

Gold carries a far wider spread than currency pairs once converted into money — typically 15 to
35 cents, which is $15 to $35 per lot. IB commission is drawn from that, so gold rebates are large
in absolute terms, and policy differences between brokers get magnified.

Putting the number in context

Entering one gold lot costs roughly $15 to $35 in spread. A rebate of $10 to $18 means you
recover a meaningful share of that cost — but still not all of it, and certainly not
profit.

For anyone trading gold regularly this is
the single largest line in the whole rebate programme. Ten gold lots a month at $12 per lot is
$120 a month, $1,440 a year.

Do not forget the overnight cost

Gold carries a negative swap in both directions at
most brokers, commonly −$15 to −$45 per lot per night, and Wednesday night is charged triple. For
anyone holding gold across several days, swap usually exceeds both the spread and the rebate.

Which means: choosing a broker on its gold rebate only makes sense if you close within the day.
Hold longer and the broker’s swap rate matters more.

Check the symbol before you compare

One broker may list several gold symbols — XAUUSD, XAUUSD.m,
GOLD — with different
contract sizes. The rates in the table apply to
the standard symbol. If you trade a variant, check the full table on the broker’s page.
